MYERSTOWN ROD and GUN CLUB MISSION STATEMENT
The Myerstown Rod and Gun Association, incorporated in 1925, provides facilities, educational opportunities
and activities for its members to promote and pursue the outdoor sports of shooting, hunting, fishing and
trapping in a safe, ethical, and ecologically sound manner; to enable members to become good stewards
our natural resources of land, air, water, and wildlife in Lebanon County and the Commonwealth of
Pennsylvania.
Facilities
> The Myerstown Rod and Gun Association (hereafter known as MRGA) provides facilities for its members
to develop skills in the shooting sports: Shooting ranges have been provided since the inception of the
Club and are open and usually utilized on a daily basis for archery, pistol, rifle and shotgun. Rifle ranges
provide target shooting at 25, 50 and 100 yards. Range equipment is maintained regularly by volunteers
of the MRGA. An archery range with targets situated in an acre of wooded area is also maintained by a
dedicated core of volunteers.
> A Trap Course, operational for at least 50 years, is open for shooting each Wednesday morning from
April 1 through October 31 of each year and is staffed by volunteers of the MRGA.
> A club house and picnic pavilion is provided to the membership for regular meetings of the club, infor-
mational and educational programs, and social events.
Educational Opportunities
> The MRGA sponsors and host, annually, a Basic Hunter Trapper Education Course (an 8 hour course) in
collaboration with the Pennsylvania Game Commission, enrolling 50-70 students, 11 years of age and
older, that leads to certification and the privilege of purchasing a hunting license in Pennsylvania. The
course is free to the students and the MRGA provides food and beverages for the class. All students 15
years of age and younger, completing the Hunter Trapper Education Course satisfactorily, receive a free
Junior Membership from the MRGA.
> Advanced courses, i.e., Successful Wild Turkey Hunting, Successful Furtaking and Successful Bow
Hunting (a six hour course), will be offered in collaboration with the Pennsylvania Game Commission on
a rotating basis.
> The Club sponsors a youth/family day every two years.
Activities:
> The MRGA serves the wider community as a dues paying member of the Lebanon County Federation of
Sportsmen's Clubs; in corroboration with twenty-plus other sportsmen's clubs, the MRGA contributes
financial and human resources to accomplish the following:
> Provide seven evenings each spring, where patients (approximately 35 each week) from the nearby
Lebanon Veteran's Hospital are given opportunity to enjoy an evening of fishing at a local pond, stocked
with fish. A free picnic meal is provided each evening.
> Special-needs children from intermediate Unit 13 in Lebanon County are also given a half day fishing
experience and a free picnic lunch (approximately 39 students in each of three weeks.)
Lebanon County Youth/Family Field Day is held annually each June to introduce youth and family
members to the great ouotdoor heritage of Pennyslvania.
